Day 2837 since the crash.

I am just an average person, probably much like you. And, like some of you, mine and my family's lives has changed forever because of a stupid choice made by someone who shouldn't have been able to drive.

This is the opinion of an angry father who daily prays that his son is brought back whole, but knows that this may never happen. It's frustrating when I think that my son's voice may never be heard because no one collects the statistics of permanently injured DUI victims. And if you don't have measure it, how can you manage it?

As Americans, we need change and we need it NOW!

We need it in our County, State and Federal levels. I am in Orange County, California and will fight to put strong anti-DUI bills on our ballot, and hope you will do the same where you live. If you're interested in fighting together, send your emails to jonathan@conder.com .

Thanks.

Here are the platforms I am fighting for:

  • Multiple Offender Law, with or without fatality or bodily injury. License permanently revoked on second DUI offense. With severe penalties for driving without a license. State and Federal Level.
  • Measure and Manage. The US DOT, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reports "Alcohol Involved" crashes and tracks the number of fatalities. I believe they should also track the number of injuries because of the tremendous costs to the States and Federal Government, which we pay in the form of higher taxes and higher insurance premiums. Also, by watching these numbers we can measure the effectiveness of in-place prevention programs. Federal Level.
  • Mandatory permanent alcohol monitoring after first DUI offense and Optional Equipment on all new vehicles. According to BTS, seat belts have saved more lives each year (452% increase in estimated saved lives when comparing the two years, 1998 and 1985). Imagine how many Alcohol Involved crashes would not occur and how many lives would NOT be touched by this horrible tragedy if first offenders must breath into a tube just as they must fasten their seat belt? Imagine how much safer young people would be if their parents installed this type of device on their new car before letting their son or daughter drive? Result: Lower auto insurance premiums for young drivers, fewer alcohol-related injuries and deaths, lower health insurance premiums, less costs covered by the government. Federal Level for auto manufacturers, State level for retro-fitting offender vehicles.

Write your congressman. Write your governor. Write your county supervisors.
You CAN make a difference.
